I am probably one of the nerdiest lawyers you will ever meet. I love the challenge of tackling complex issues that are not just theoretical. I love diving into new areas of the law – often areas that most lawyers consider dry and boring. And I love partnering with clients, learning about your business and determining how we can help bring your business goals to life.

Someone once told me that a lawyer is always learning – and in my experience that is 100% true. I’ll be honest with you: lawyers don’t always know the answer right away. But learning is the reason I became a lawyer and why I love practicing law. I will work through the complex problems with you and help you find the right solution for your business needs.

My Approach

My role as a lawyer is to help you find legal solutions to your business issues. I like to think how I approach this is a lot like how I approach a jigsaw puzzle: look at the big picture, outline the border, and then work my way in. First, I work to understand your current situation and your goals – the big picture.  I then analyze the situation to determine the best way to reach your goal.  Once we’ve outlined the way forward, I will help you figure out the details – every detail is just a small piece of the bigger puzzle. The entire time, I see myself as your partner – putting the puzzle pieces together with you – and not just your lawyer.

Last (but certainly not least), I think my clients appreciate the humor and light-heartedness I often bring to the table – or at least I hope they do. I mean, how many other attorneys liken their approach to a jigsaw puzzle after all!

More About Me

I graduated, magna cum laude, with a B.A. in Political Science from Luther College in 2009, where I was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 2014, I received my J.D., with highest honors, from Drake University and graduated Order of the Coif. During law school, I served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Stephanie M. Rose, District Court Judge for the Southern District of Iowa. I was admitted to the Iowa bar in 2014. I have been selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers since 2019.

I currently serve as President of Polk County Women Attorneys, after serving on PCWA’s Board for five years in a number of roles. I am also an active member of the Polk County, Iowa State, and American Bar Associations. From 2016-2020, I served on the Board of Directors of Iowa Youth Chorus, a local nonprofit providing choral music education to children, including two years as Board President. For three years, I have served as Pro Bono Legal Counsel for the West Des Moines Business Incubator, Inc. I also serve as Co-Chair of our Firm’s Corporate Transactions practice group.

When I’m not at my desk or meeting with clients, you can find me singing around the Des Moines area (most often with the Drake University Community Chorus), reviewing local restaurants on social media, traveling with my fiancé, or playing with our rambunctious cattle dog, Koda.
