Specialties
I am a member of BrownWinick and past Co-Chair of the firm's Litigation practice group. I practice in the area of commercial litigation and constantly strive to get my clients the best results in the most efficient manner possible. My main objective is to use the litigation process to add value to my clients' lives and businesses. I have represented clients (both plaintiffs and defendants) in all litigation arenas, including before state and federal administrative agencies, state and federal district courts and juries, state and federal appellate courts, and in countless mediations and arbitrations.
My practice focuses primarily on agribusiness, construction, intellectual property, real estate and fiduciary / probate disputes. My experience across those areas is “A to Z”, ranging from fighting with the federal government on crop insurance matters, to complex business “divorces” between adverse shareholders, to filing lien claims on public and private construction projects, to handling patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret disputes, to mortgage foreclosure and eviction actions, to land partition actions among beneficiaries of an estate or trust, and more.
I am a member of the Polk County and Iowa State Bar Associations. I have been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers¨ as a “Rising Star” in the area of Business Litigation since 2016 and was selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers¨ in the areas of Litigation-Commercial; Litigation-Construction; Litigation-Intellectual Property, and Litigation-Real Estate.
I was first licensed to practice law in 2008, and am licensed to appear before district and appellate courts in the state of Iowa, the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
I graduated, cum laude, from Drake University in 2005 with a B.S. in Business Administration. I received my J.D., with high honors, in 2008 from Drake University.
I am a native of Maquoketa, Iowa, a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan, and husband and proud father of three children. I am a member of Holy Trinity Parish, where I have coached Junior High Mock Trial since 2010 and currently serve on the Board of Education. When the stars align and I find a few hours of free time on a nice day, you are likely to find me at the golf course (where I prove to myself over and again why I don't quit my day job)!
