Members of BrownWinick’s Health Law Practice Group and their families gathered on Saturday, September 28, 2019 to participate in NAMIWalks Iowa, which was held in Johnston. BrownWinick also served as a Bronze Sponsor of the event.
The NAMIWalks Iowa event raised over $123,000 for the Iowa Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Health. One in five adults, or approximately 600,000 Iowans, live with some form of mental illness, and about 37,000 Iowans deal with a serious mental illness daily. NAMI Iowa’s mission is to serve as a catalyst around advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all Iowans affected by mental illness can lead better lives. BrownWinick is proud to partner with NAMI Iowa on this very successful event for such an important mission.
Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character.
We envision a world in which all people affected by mental illness experience resiliency, recovery and wellness.
NAMI Iowa serves as a catalyst around advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all Iowans affected by mental illness can lead better lives.
