The reason I love being an attorney at BrownWinick is the people. I get to work with interesting clients, on interesting issues, with a skilled and personable group of colleagues. I think our firm’s culture shows through in our work as we collaborate to provide effective, efficient, and friendly counsel to our clients. A good chunk of what I do involves two highly-regulated industries – Health Care and Gaming. When your business is controlled by complex regulatory schemes, details matter. I work hard to sweat the details while always keeping focus on the big picture.

My Approach

I strive to get to know my clients and their businesses so that I can help them assess legal risk and business opportunity in a practical way that is tailored to their individual needs. I see my job as distilling the legal requirements related to a situation into business choices that allow my clients to act. Solid legal advice matters but so does timeliness, I work hard to provide both.

More About Me

I grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Grinnell College with a BA in Art History. Prior to attending law school, I worked for over ten years at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York where I helped lead projects that improved the business operations of the museum through the use of information technology. I was also a small business owner for a couple of years running a consulting business that helped museums address change. These experiences have taught me that what works for a big organization may not for a small one and context always matters.

I am active in the health law bar through membership in the American Health Lawyers Association and the Iowa Society of Healthcare Attorneys. I’m also a member of the Polk County and Iowa Bar Associations. I stay active in the community through my work on the boards of the Salisbury House and Iowa Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
