Specialties

My job as a litigation member at BrownWinick is to help our clients succeed.  You already know how to navigate through a competitive business environment.  What I bring to the table is an expertise to resolve disputes in a way that advances the goals of your business.  I have yet to meet a client that loves being involved in a lawsuit, but I know a number of clients that appreciate dealing with business disputes by first assessing the issue, then identifying potential outcomes, and finally devising a strategy to reach the best outcome available.

My Approach

Our clients are involved in every type of business you can imagine.  From determining the best way to enforce your legal rights in a dispute, to defending against a lawsuit that could have enormous consequences for you and your business, my job is to get intimately familiar with you, your business, and all the facts of your case and provide you with cogent and rational advice for the best way to proceed.  You have to have a game plan, and working with you to develop that plan is my first priority.  Once the plan is established, I work with you and my BrownWinick colleagues to carry it out.

More About Me

I am a fifth generation Iowan and received my Bachelors of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1984.  Following graduation I worked for four years for the Iowa Department of Revenue in Des Moines in the corporate tax department.  I then went to the University of Iowa College of Law where I was a Note and Comment editor for the Journal of Corporation Law, and received my J.D., with high distinction, in 1991.

Following law school I practiced at a 500 lawyer law firm in Los Angeles for three years.  Then in 1994 I was lucky enough to receive an offer from BrownWinick.  I have been here ever since. I currently serve as Managing Partner on the firm's Executive Committee.  I am also currently a member of the Polk County and Iowa State Bar Associations, am admitted to practice in California and Iowa, and I have been on the Board of the St. Theresa Parish Foundation since 1996, which administers an endowment for the parish.
