As a member of BrownWinick law Firm, my practice primarily consists of advising clients in their interactions with governmental entities, including the legislative and executive branches. After spending nine years working at various levels of state government, most recently as the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, I am trusted to bring understanding to a sometimes complex and layered system.
I am a pragmatic problem-solver; I believe that there is always a solution, even to the most complex problems. By taking a multi-faceted approach to understanding the business case, legal rationale, and politics, we can develop and execute a strategy to achieve results. Often, the solution is as simple as making a point of clarification; when that isn’t the case, I will leverage my expertise and experience to tirelessly advocate for the client’s desired outcome.
More About Me
Before joining BrownWinick, I served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Kim Reynolds. During that time, I oversaw the development of the Governor’s policy agenda, successfully leading efforts to enact the Governor’s proposals to expand and fund mental health services, build broadband infrastructure, remove workforce barriers, and expand education opportunities. I also advised on the development of the state’s $8.4 billion general fund budget and provided counsel on some of the most significant challenges the State of Iowa has faced, including a global pandemic, civil unrest, and a derecho. Additionally, I have held roles in the public sector as health policy advisor to Governor Kim Reynolds and as policy advisor to the Departments of Human Services and Aging and in the private sector as a government relations attorney. My passion for policies that further the interests of Iowa communities, businesses, and residents, has driven my career.
A life-long Iowan, I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. As the only girl in a family of five children, my brothers would agree that I began honing my advocacy skills at a young age. I graduated from Iowa State University in 2008, receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and earned my Juris Doctorate degree and Health Law certificate from Drake University Law School in December of 2010. I was admitted to the Iowa bar in April of 2011.
I currently live in Norwalk, Iowa and when I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters.
