Specialties

I serve as a member at BrownWinick with my practice focused in Intellectual Property.   What really drives me in this job is taking a deep dive into the new technology that my clients develop.  I love exploring the various applications in which your inventions may be commercialized and advising how we can best protect your intellectual property to advance your goals and priorities in the short term and over the long haul.

My Approach

My approach focuses on where your company is at, where your competitors are, and where you want to be.  We will work with you to help determine what steps you can take to develop and leverage your intellectual property portfolio that will provide the best value for your investment.

More About Me

Prior to joining BrownWinick, I worked as a Patent Attorney for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and for a Minnesota Intellectual Property Firm before that.  In my career as a Patent Attorney, I have helped develop patent portfolios for clients in a variety of industries.  My technical expertise includes analog and digital circuits, and semiconductor design and fabrication, control systems, data security/encryption, resource optimization, communication systems, synthesis placement and routing, simulation and modeling systems, electronic design automation, integrated hardware/software, distributed computing, wireless networks, RF and MIMO transceivers, analog and digital signal processing, radiation shielding and system hardening, optics and cameras, sensors, lasers, electro-magnetic imaging, inflatable structures, data analytics, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.

In addition to IP portfolio development, I can assist your company with inbound and outbound licensing of patents and copyrights, software data rights auditing and compliance, and negotiation of IP provisions for government contracts/grants and cooperative agreements.

I received my Juris Doctorate with honors from Drake University.  I earned my B.S. in Computer Engineering with distinction from Iowa State University. I am also certified as an Information Systems Security Professional (NSTISSI No. 4011 Certification) by Committee on National Security Systems. I am licensed to practice law in Minnesota and Iowa and am further registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
