It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Marvin Winick, a named partner at BrownWinick, who passed away on Wednesday at his winter home in Rancho Mirage, California. Marvin's legacy is deeply woven into the firm, leaving a lasting mark on both colleagues and the legal community at large.
Marvin was a 1951 graduate of Des Moines North High School and received a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1955. He then served two years as an officer in the United States Air Force, received his law degree from Iowa in 1959, and became a CPA in 1960, the year Marvin’s journey at BrownWinick started. During his time at the firm, Marvin emerged as a leader of our corporate and tax practice. Marvin retired from BrownWinick on June 30, 2005. His unwavering commitment to the firm's values and his dedication to client success have set a standard that will be remembered for years to come.
As a partner, Marvin played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of BrownWinick. Beyond his role as a partner, Marvin was a mentor and managing partner for several years. His contributions also extended beyond the walls of the firm. In the legal community, Marvin served as a member of the Ethics Committee and chairman of the Tax Committee of the Iowa State Bar Association. In the community at large, Marvin served as President, Vice-President, and member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Federation of Greater Des Moines; he was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Christians and Jews; and Marvin was an active participant in community initiatives with Tifereth Israel Synagogue and its Foundation, serving as President of both organizations. Whether through community outreach or leadership in legal associations, his commitment to social responsibility was exemplary.
As we reflect on Marvin's legacy, we acknowledge the void his passing leaves at BrownWinick. However, his spirit lives on in the principles and values he instilled in the firm. In honoring Marvin's memory, his legacy will forever be etched in the firm's history, serving as a reminder of the power of leadership and the enduring impact of a life well-lived. May his memory be a blessing.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Robbie, his children Laura, Ellen, and Steven, and his grandchildren. Marvin’s memorial services are pending.
