Specialties
As an associate attorney with BrownWinick, I strive to assist you with Business and Corporate Transactions, Business Law, Tax law, succession planning and Estate Planning. It is my goal to provide you with the information and tools you need to make informed decisions by providing advice tailored to their unique circumstances, specific goals, and needs. I accomplish this for you through properly planning and structuring transactions, developing and configuring your succession and estate planning, assisting with employee benefit planning, assessing and determining compliance strategies, and strongly advocating for you in audits and controversies.
My Approach
As your attorney, I strongly believe understanding who you are and what drives you is a vital step so the decisions you make today will positively impact your business and succession. I will establish a rapport with you, learn about your circumstances and identify what you are passionate about. After learning about you, your family, your business, and your goals, I work with you to ensure that your transactions and succession planning take full advantage of the tax breaks and incentives applicable to your situation.
More About Me
I’ve always dreamed of becoming an attorney. I place the inspiration with my mother. My mom always told me, “You can be anything you want to be, as long as you’re a doctor or a lawyer.” As fate would have it, one of my sisters became the doctor and I became the lawyer.
I started my career as a manager at Barnes & Noble booksellers. As a District Café Training Manager, I developed business strategies for stores in Iowa and Nebraska, taught managers how to read and interpret business reports, and helped develop nationwide training curriculum.
In 2013, with two small children at home and while continuing in my fulltime work as district trainer, I returned to school to complete my B.A. in Spanish. I found my passion for business and taxes when I took the often-dreaded introduction to financial accounting course. That passion led me to add a second major to my undergraduate path. While in school, from 2016 to 2018, I interned in the accounting department at Rockwell Collins, now Collins Aerospace. I actively participated in UI student organizations, holding officer positions with Beta Alpha Psi and volunteering as a preparer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
In fall 2017, I began a combined degree program, enrolling in Iowa Law and Tippie as a J.D. and Master of Accountancy student. While in law school, I earned spots, and competed for Iowa Law’s Stephenson trial advocacy team and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration moot team. I was a student writer and Senior Article Editor for the Journal of Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems. I was also a TA for Income Management and Asset Valuation and continued my volunteer work. Upon graduation, I received recognition from the Pro-Bono Society as the student with the most volunteer hours.
Before joining BrownWinick at the end of 2023, I worked at another firm focusing on a general practice with a focus on Non-Profits, Business Transactions and Counseling, Taxation, Banking and Finance, and Estate Planning.
