After four decades of practice with BrownWinick, I have accumulated knowledge and experience that I rely upon each day in providing practical legal advice to my clients.  Yet each new day brings new challenges and opportunities - chances to help people address their needs and solve real life problems.

My Approach

Like all attorneys, I endeavor to provide the highest quality work in a timely manner.  But I also strive to achieve creative solutions to problems, and to present those solutions in a way you can understand.  There are often multiple ways to address a problem, approach a transaction, or plan for the future.  My role is to help identify those alternatives and the risks and rewards of each, so that you can make informed decisions.  If the obvious alternative will not work, I will look for another way to achieve your goal.

I pride myself in being accessible and approachable.  I work hard to earn your trust, to help you identify and achieve your goals, to provide you with plain language explanations and advice, and to leave you with a clear understanding of the results.  In other words, “It's all about you”.

More About Me

I received my B.A. in Business Administration from Drake University in 1977, and my J.D. with honors, from Drake Law School in December of 1981.  I was admitted to the Iowa Bar in January of 1982 and immediately began my legal career with BrownWinick.  I am a member of the Drake Law School Order of the Coif, and the Polk County and Iowa Bar Associations.

I have been recognized in the “Chambers USA® High Net Worth” guide as a Band One Attorney in Private Wealth Law in Iowa, and since 2007 have been selected by my peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers® in the areas of Tax Law and Trusts and Estates.  I am a charter member of the Iowa Academy of Trust and Estate Counsel and am a member of the Tax Committee of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry.  Locally, I have served in leadership roles for a number of charitable organizations.
