John R. Watson

I am an attorney at BrownWinick, specializing in Business and Corporate law along with Government and Administrative law. I want to be a facilitator for clients and find solutions tailored to their specific needs, and not a cut and paste answer.

My Approach

My approach is to understand clients’ businesses and their goals and to help them achieve those goals in the most practical and efficient way possible. I want to help by solving the small problems while keeping the bigger picture in mind. I help clients to find simple solutions to complex legal issues, and if there is not a simple solution, then a solution that is easily digestible and actionable. I believe clients should not have to try to understand difficult legal concepts, but instead be able to understand and act on the solutions that we provide.

More About Me

I am a Des Moines native, attending Roosevelt High School. I received my bachelor’s degree at the University of St. Thomas (MN) in marketing. I also played football and club hockey at St. Thomas. After college, I lived in Breckenridge, Colorado working as a ski lift operator at Breckenridge Ski Resort. I then worked for advertising agencies in Chicago, Illinois and Denver, Colorado before moving back home to attend Drake University Law School. In my spare time, I travel the country and the world, attend concerts, go skiing, and referee professional and college hockey.
