Specialties

After being a government attorney for many years, I’ve developed extensive knowledge of regulatory matters across numerous areas, from highly-technical subjects like utilities and banking to the broader areas of employment and labor laws, including professional licensing. During my time with the Iowa Utilities Commission, I worked on rate cases, pipeline permits, transmission line franchises, service territory modifications, customer complaints, rulemakings, and competitive natural gas provider certifications, and everything in between across all of the regulated industries: electric, natural gas, water, telecommunications, and video/cable. Helping clients work through regulatory issues is the core of my practice.

In addition, I also regularly advise clients on employment and human resources-related issues, which allows me to bring my experience with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, Iowa Workforce Development, and the Department of Administrative Services to assist with my clients’ legal and business needs. I have also argued numerous cases before several of the state’s professional licensing boards, and I have represented clients in both state and federal courts in Iowa on a variety of civil and constitutional matters, so I can provide my clients with proper representation and guidance whether it's inside the courtroom or going through transactional work at a desk.

My Approach

I help my clients cut through governmental red tape to get their business accomplished. I know that dealing with permitting, licensing, and other regulatory matters is no one’s idea of fun, so I work to provide quick and legally sound advice to get the issue resolved with the minimum amount of hassle to you. I understand that regardless of how big or small an issue is, they are all unique, and I strive to provide the same high-quality advice and representation to each client every time.

More About Me

I spent 13 years serving the citizens of Iowa as an employee of the State of Iowa. I joined BrownWinick from the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, where I was an Assistant Attorney General in the Administrative and Licensing Division. Prior to that, I worked at the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and was an Assistant General Counsel for the Iowa Utilities Commission.

After growing up in Omaha, I attended Dartmouth College where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and History in 2004. I earned my J.D., cum laude, from the Creighton University School of Law in 2009 and was a member of the Creighton Law Review. I was admitted to the Arizona Bar in 2009 (inactive) and Iowa in 2011. Following graduation, I did clerkships in both the Fourth and Fifth Judicial Districts of Iowa.
