Austin M. Poock

As an associate attorney at BrownWinick Law Firm, I work primarily in the intellectual property (IP) practice group. I help you understand and obtain IP rights, protect and monetize your IP, and defend against accusations of infringement. I have always been curious about how things work and what new and innovative concepts are being made. I also enjoy the challenge of solving problems and helping others, and every day as an IP attorney I get to do all of this while helping you protect your hard work.

My Approach

I believe the best way to approach a situation is with the end in mind. I strive to understand what aspects of your invention, idea, brand, or creative work you want to be protected, or how you would like to resolve a particular situation. By listening and asking questions, it is my intention to fully comprehend the situation and your end goal. Once I understand the end goal, I will work to achieve it as if it were my own, because your success is my goal. Throughout any process, I will help you understand the next steps, any alternatives, and the possible outcomes of each alternative, and constantly communicate along the way.

More About Me

I was born and raised in the town of Hampton, Iowa. After high school, I moved south down I-35 to attend Iowa State University. After a few years of engineering school, I decided I wanted to attend law school and pursue a career as an intellectual property attorney. I graduated from Iowa State with a B.S. in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering. I then headed a little farther south and went to law school at Drake University. During law school, I served as a staff member of the Drake Law Review and as a student attorney with the Drake Entrepreneurial and Transactional Law Clinic, where I helped clients form new LLCs and non-profit organizations. I received my J.D. with highest honors in 2021 and earned a certificate in Intellectual Property Law. Upon graduation, I earned a membership to the Order of the Coif. When I'm not working, I enjoy watching sports (especially Iowa State games), biking, golfing, traveling, and going on walks with my wife and our dog.
