I am a member at BrownWinick.  I am the co-chair of our health law practice group.  I spend my days helping my clients work through their problems in a productive and efficient manner.  I help them find practical solutions to oftentimes very stressful situations.  I have worked on business and corporate issues for more than 20 years.  Many of the clients I work with are involved in healthcare in some fashion.  My clients include long term care facilities, hospitals, mental health providers, physicians, and dentists.  I assist with many ongoing business and administrative law issues, including buying and selling their businesses, obtaining necessary certifications and licenses (including Certificate of Need approval) addressing board licensure and other disciplinary issues, working with regulatory bodies, resolving HIPAA and other privacy issues, addressing fraud and abuse issues, and resolving disputes with Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and other payers.

In addition to my healthcare expertise, I have spent many years working with clients in the renewable fuels area.  I’ve provided representation related to entity organization, contracting and raising capital.

More About Me

I graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1996 with a B.A. in psychology and then from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1999.  I have been recognized in Best Lawyers in the area of Health Care Law and was awarded Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” in Health Care Law.  I serve on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Environmental Council, the Growing Green Futures Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Des Moines, and I am the current co-vice chair of the St. Augustin Home and School Association.  One of the parts of my job at BrownWinick that I enjoy most is my role as co-chair of the Charity Committee.  We are very fortunate at BrownWinick to have such strong support from our attorneys and staff for our charitable activities in the greater Des Moines metro throughout the year.
