As a transactional attorney, I spend a lot of time putting together deals (both large and small, simple to complex) for diverse clients across a wide range of industries. I also advise those clients on varied business, corporate and securities legal issues. Depending on the day, I may be structuring a business acquisition, negotiating a key business contract, exploring terms to bring on a new business partner, advising on board or shareholder matters, analyzing options for raising capital or reviewing financing documents. Whatever the situation, I partner with clients to develop practical solutions to their problems, help them capitalize on strategic opportunities that come their way, and navigate them through the complexities of their business deals.

My Approach

I strive to provide business-minded advice that complements your way of doing business. Through years of experience, I’ve learned that there is no “one-size fits all” approach to getting from “Point A” to “Point B.” Rather, a successful transaction requires a thoughtful understanding of where you are starting, where you want to go, and the risks and challenges that you are likely to encounter along the way given your unique position in the business world. I listen to your objectives, needs and concerns so I can understand the big picture of how a particular transaction or legal issue will impact your business, all while keeping a close eye on the details that are essential to a successful outcome. I bring collaboration, creativity and problem-solving skills to each issue that I tackle.

More About Me

I graduated from Iowa State University in 2003, with highest distinction, receiving a B.S. in Business Management. In 2006, I received my J.D., with highest honors, from Drake University Law School. During law school, I served as an Associate Editor of the Drake Law Review and had the opportunity to serve as a legal intern at Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa and a summer associate at a large international law firm in Chicago, Illinois.  I was admitted to the bar in 2006, and I am a member of Order of the Coif. I have been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in the Business/Corporate area. I’ve also had experience serving as in-house counsel at an international financial services company. I am a member of the Iowa State and American Bar Associations.

I am a 2011 graduate of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute. I am currently a co-chair of BrownWinick’s Women in Business group, which is dedicated to supporting women business owners and leaders. I am also a past chair of BrownWinick’s Associates Committee and former co-chair of BrownWinick’s Corporate Practice Group.

Outside of the office, I volunteer my time to various community organizations, particularly those devoted to supporting children and women in our community. I’ve co-chaired committees or events for Variety – the Children’s Charity, JDRF and Komen Race for the Cure.  I participate in a subcommittee of the West Des Moines Public Arts Advisory Commission and volunteer at my child’s school to enhance classroom art education.
