After more than 30 years with BrownWinick, I am phasing into retirement during 2020. Although I’m not maintaining set office hours this year, I am monitoring phone calls and email and am available as needed. I work primarily in the areas of pensions/employee benefits and adoption/surrogacy. Although these practice areas are quite different, I enjoy assisting clients in both – hence my slow road to retirement.
Employee benefits law demands an understanding of complex laws and regulations, including ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code. My goals are to determine which rules apply to your situation, to make them understandable, and to help you determine the best path forward. That approach applies whether you’re considering a new benefit plan, ensuring that an existing plan is in compliance, responding to an IRS or DOL audit, or dealing with some other issue.
Adoption and surrogacy matters are by nature highly personal and emotional for all parties. They also require familiarity with applicable laws and court procedures, however. I know how stressful these matters can be. I strive to make the process clear and understandable and to support my clients through it. I take particular joy in helping clients grow their families, and as a bonus, I get to meet a lot of babies!
