BrownWinick is widely regarded in the legal and business communities as one of
Iowa's major firms. The firm has a sophisticated and respected transactional practice
and an equally respected active litigation practice. The firm also offers a very
strong lobbying group to assist clients with legislative and governmental needs.
We serve a diverse clientele which includes large corporations, farm cooperatives,
small family-owned businesses and individuals.
SUMMER ASSOCIATE PROGRAM:
BrownWinick attends several on-campus law school interviews during the fall every
year to help the firm identify qualified candidates for the firm's Summer Associate
Program. The firm's purpose in this interview process is to find applicants who
have all the necessary tools for an outstanding legal career and other qualifications
that will allow those individuals to make a contribution to the firm, our clients
and the community. BrownWinick's Summer Associate Program introduces second year
law students to the practice of law. The Summer Associate Program is designed
to offer summer associates the benefit of working at a full-service law firm,
while providing the personal attention more characteristic of a smaller firm.
Summer associates are encouraged to undertake projects in a variety of BrownWinick's
practice areas, without a forced rotation system. Summer associates are given
challenging assignments that reflect work typically done by junior associates.
Lawyers at all levels work closely with summer associates and the firm strongly
encourage the lawyers to involve summer associates in the cases and transactions
on which they are working. For example, summer associates often have the opportunity
to attend client meetings, help to prepare witnesses for their testimony at trial,
and to attend depositions, hearings and trials.
BrownWinick also offers a wide variety of educational programs and social events.
These events allow summer associates to get to know BrownWinick's lawyers as well
as one another outside the work setting.
BrownWinick believes in the importance of communication from each summer associate
on the quality of their assignments and on the firm's Summer Associate Program.
In addition, the summer associates will receive a formal evaluation of their performance
at the midpoint of their summer employment. We encourage summer associates to
provide comments and feedback on any assignment or the Summer Associate Program
to Rebecca A. Brommel
, Chair of the firm's Recruiting Committee.
Laterals / Associates:
In addition to identifying candidates through BrownWinick's Summer Associate
Program, the firm hires associates through on-campus interviewing of third-year
law students and a review of resumes received by the Recruiting Committee from
interested applicants. Some of BrownWinick's associates are hired after completion
of federal and state judicial clerkships. The firm also hires lateral attorneys
for associate and partner positions as needed.
